Injectable fillers are used to round out wrinkles, lines, and scars, or to give the face a more desirable shape. Fillers are made from a variety of different substances.

In this procedure, the treatment area is cleansed, an anesthetic is applied, if necessary, and the filler is injected under the skin using a tiny needle. Patients may feel some discomfort or pain during the injections. Side effects, which include bleeding, pain, swelling, bruising, and infection, may be treated using ice packs or medications.

The results of soft tissue augmentation with injectable fillers are not permanent, even though a filler substance may be considered permanent. The results of permanent fillers can change over time; as you age naturally, these fillers may shift or clump. The continued aging of your face and variables in the absorption of fillers will affect how long your results last.

Should you choose not to repeat treatment, your appearance will return to its original condition. Plumped lips will lose volume and improved wrinkles, creases and scars will visibly recess and fully reappear in time.

Types of fillers:

Hyaluronic Acid (Restylane, Juvederm, Hylaform, Perlane, and Dermalive)

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural substance found in our bodies. It is well suited to plump thin lips and fills facial creases such as nasolabial folds. It may also be appropriate for some surface wrinkles and concave scars. The results may last 6 months or longer.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (Radiesse)

Under the brand name Radiesse, each syringe contains CaHA particles that are suspended in a water-based solution (available in (0.3, 1, or 1.3 ml) to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and skin folds around the mouth and nose as well as fill certain scars. The filler is biocompatible, non-toxic, and non-allergenic; results last for up to six months or more.

Synthetic Poly-L-Lactic Acid (Sculptra)

Synthetic poly-L-lactic acid, also known under the brand name of Sculptra, is a synthetic but biocompatible material derived from natural sources. Sculptra treats skin folds, indented chin, hollowed cheeks, and sunken eyes. Results last up to two years. People usually require multiple initial treatments to obtain a fully satisfactory outcome and then receive maintenance treatments in order to continue to see results.
